Andrew Cummings, Baritone
 
Andrew Cummings, baritone, recently made his Carnegie Hall debut in the title role in Rigoletto with New York Lyric Opera Theater at Carnegie’s Weill Hall.  Acclaimed by the New York Times for his performance in Shaw Sings! with Encompass New Opera Theater at Symphony Space in New York City. His 2009 performances included Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera with The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, the title roles in Le Nozze di Figaro with OperaDelaware, Elijah with the University of Pennsylvania Symphony, Valentin in Faust with Regina Opera, and Escamillo in La Tragédie de Carmen with Hubbard Hall Opera Theater. In 2010, he will add several important roles to his repertoire, including the title role in Rigoletto for his Carnegie Hall debut with New York Lyric Opera at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, Top in The Tender Land with Center Square Concerts in Pennsylvania, Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de Perles with Middlebury Opera Company in Vermont, and Malatesta in Don Pasquale with Regina Opera Company.

Mr. Cummings’s other operatic appearances include Giorgio Germont in La Traviata with Regina Opera, Ben in The Telephone and Guglielmo (cover) in Cosi fan Tutte with Natchez Opera, Tonio in I Pagliacci with the Rockland Opera Society, the title role in Falstaff with American Singers Opera Project, and the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro as well as Belcore in L'Elisir d'Amore with The Martina Arroyo Foundation in New York City.  In addition, he has appeared in operas with the Brevard Music Festival, Lake George Opera, Chestnut Hill Operalogue, Metro Lyric Opera of New Jersey, and with the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra.

On the concert and oratorio stage, Mr. Cummings has made frequent guest appearances across the USA, including Bach’s St. John’s Passion with Shepherd University in West Virginia, Carmina Burana and Brahm's Ein Deutsches Requiem with the University of Pennsylvania’s Choral Society, Mozart’s Requiem with the Camerata New York Orchestra, and Verdi’s Requiem with the University of Pennsylvania and Shepherd University. Some other works include Bach’s B-Minor Mass, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Faure’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, Various Bach Cantatas, and Haydn’s Creation. He has also been the cover soloist for the Bach B Minor Mass, Faure Requiem, and Paul Moravec’s Songs of Love and War at Carnegie Hall with Kent Tritle and the Oratorio Society of New York.

An avid performer of contemporary music, Mr. Cummings has been featured in the world premieres of To One in Paradise by Benjamin C. S. Boyle with the Bachanalia Orchestra at Merkin Hall, Searching for Kristallnacht by Thomas Cabaniss at the JCC of Manhattan, Hero of Crossroads, Gardener of the Heart by Emily Anna Bridges for the Penn Composers Guild, and Gary Papach’s The Last Leaf with the North Czech Philharmonic in the Czech Republic.

A former apprentice at Lake George Opera, Mr. Cummings received his music education from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. He currently resides in New York City and studies voice with Arthur Levy.
